I survived

Saturday, August 18, 2012
I survived homeschooling for two days!  I have no opinion as of yet, other than to say that I have a new found respect for parents everywhere that do this.

We started on Thursday and I found myself wanting to quit by 9:15am.  Ha! We pushed on and finished our coursework for the day at 10:30!!!! NOT GOOD!
Or let me say, not good for me.  I was unimpressed with a two hour school day so we tried again on Friday, and instead of doing just the coursework actually did more than required for a set amount of time.
So instead of doing one math lesson we did 4, and I must say that I think the time schedule will work better for me than just doing one a day per subject.
We finished at 1:30 and nobody felt angry, overwhelmed, bored or otherwise unhappy.

Winning??!!??  Who knows.

p.s. If you are interested in the K12 curriculum, consider yourself warned that the music program is LAME! (The opinion of both Izabella and myself.)

Off to Orange County now to see the hubby!

Peace out!

Sorry guys, I have to vent to you.  I've exhausted my complaining and stressing outlets and now have to use an online forum.

Yes, I have gotten several e-mails, texts and phone calls of encouragement.

But...what I have gotten from (over)reading about this is that I need to be committed to this.
I totally am NOT.

I have in the back of my mind that our beloved school starts on September 4th
so if I fail, well then....it's settled.

That is usually not how I operate, I get that commitment is so important.  But I just can't get there.
I am freaking out.

I guess THAT is how I operate.

The neurotic mess formerly knows as Jenn.

Can't believe it! The time has flown by and yet also taken FOREVER!

We met her teacher yesterday and we were both pleasantly surprised. We also signed up at the Boys and Girls Club so that in a pinch she is able to stay at the facility past her regular "school" hours.

The only thing I need now is for the online school to officially open so I can see exactly what we'll be doing and to get on with it.

On the upside, my house is now spotless and everything is probably over-organized in preparation. So no matter how overwhelming this may end up being I will not be overwhelmed with other "stuff".

It's all just a theory right now, so please, keep me in your thoughts tomorrow and if you don't hear from me just assume that I am balled up in a corner, rocking myself and babbling incoherently!

Almost there!

Nobody (well maybe a few!) can understand how unbelievably stressed out I am!

This homeschool thing has me SO SO SO freaked out!

And we start ON THURSDAY!

Tomorrow we will be meeting her teacher for the open house and I can only hope that relieves me of this stress.

Here is what I'm freaked out about:
1. Can I screw her up so much that she won't get in to Princeton?
2. Am I going to resent her because I will be spending sooooooo much time with her?
3. Am I going to resent my husband for having to work far away and making me do this?

Answers? Anyone?

p.s. My tummy hurts, I'm sure I have an ulcer from the stress. FYI.

What will Izabella be leaning today?

Organized gone crazy?

Saturday, August 11, 2012
Now that everyone has seen into my home. You've seen it in messy and clean.

All that aside, I love organizing!!
I love organizing products, blogs, websites, stores, books, etc. I can't get enough inspiration!

I love looking at pretty!

As a designer (in my prior life!) I get "staging", I understand that what makes a nice picture isn't really what makes reality. But I have to be honest some staged things make me NUTS!

Like pouring powder laundry detergent in glass jars!
(I can't verify image sources, so you'll just have to google it if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

I mean sure, you can probably do it once, maybe even three times if you are feeling extra inspired, but what a waste of otherwise valuable time!

Some packaging is ugly, not the right color (unless you use method!!!), not pretty enough, etc.,but COME ON!

If you really want to waste some time, check out what people do that wastes even more!
Search "any room" + glass jars = Waste of time

OK, done ranting now!

Have a lovely weekend!

Friday Talk Time - Homeschool

Friday, August 10, 2012
OK, So in case you didn't know, next Thursday, August 16th, I will officially be a homeschool mom.

There I said it, that wasn't so hard. (Really, sort of, it kind of is?!)

Having never ever ever ever ever ever (not even enough!) ever considered this to be a possibility, this will be by "thing" for a while.

So tell me, do you homeschool? Do you like it? Love it? Hate it? Would you NEVER homeschool? (Be careful, sometimes weird things happen!)

Do you think homeschoolers are "weird"? I totally do, and I'm about to be one! Ahhhh!

I am hoping to find a niche group of homeschooling moms at our new "school!?!" that hopefully aren't "weird".

What do you think about this whole concept?

and here we are...the last day of the week and your last chance to have a day in the life of me!

Not that I don't do ANYTHING on the weekends, but I assure you it isn't much and it's all outside stuff.

Water plants, sit on porch, pull weeds, read a book on the porch, drink sangria on the porch.

But as for today it is in fact Friday. So let's take a look at today.
Yay! Clean sheets day for me!

The to-do's!
You'll notice the 3rd bedroom list is very short.  That's because it's my cheating room. Basically it's just storage. So if I feel like rearranging I do, if not, I don't. (easy!)

The 3rd bedroom is the hub for so much "stuff" I almost wouldn't know where to start if I had to make it "perfect".
See? At least you can get to the treadmill and also to all of the books!

And then there's the master (Which is dark because Bella is still asleep!)
So here I go to clean for the last day of the week!

Cheers to clean sheets day!

Hope you've enjoyed the week in my shoes!

Thursday, August 9, 2012
Yay! Let's keep this going!
I hope everyone is enjoying being nosy!

What are we doing today?
Words can't express how much I don't like bathroom day!

To Do List
Izabella's To Do's and the stock list?

So where are we starting?
A pretty clean hall bathroom!
Cluttered master bathroom counter.
A need to get rid of that shelf! Also I need to find a better place for wetsuits!

Ugh! Bathrooms!

All the kids that are homeschooled are geniuses?!?!

Wednesday, August 8, 2012
Every homeschooling mom out there has a junior MENSA member and the system is letting them down by not promoting them at least 2 grade levels.

And I discovered this the hard way. Well not that my kid isn't MENSA material (she really is! Just like everyone else!) but that teachers are bombarded ALL THE TIME about genius students and the homeschooling parents that have created these little monsters.

(I am with an affiliated California school vs traditional homeschooling, so we have credentialed teachers)

I met with my soon to be teacher (maybe) / friend and checked out the first grade curriculum for my own peace of mind. Turns out it's pretty good. Except.....my kid can do ALL of the language arts and ALL of the math. So before we are even out of the gate I'm asking for favors because my kid is in fact a genius. Wonderful!!

Then I was told the stories about countless other parents who swear up and down that their children can do something and come testing time it actually turns out that they cant. FAIL. However I think we reached a potential middle ground of testing her on the first semester of first grade math and if she passes then shell start the year out at second semester of first grade math. DEAL.

I toally am THAT mom! Oops!

That's called compromise.

How the hell do you homeschool?

Ok.  After paying for private school for 4 years I've made a change.  I'm now 99% officially a HOMESCHOOL MOM?!?!?!?  How did this happen?  I don't even think I could explain it.
First: Hubby has been working Monday thru Friday out of the county, so we only see each other on the weekends, and not even those some weeks.
Second: With hubby working in a different county our income as well as our expenses have shifted.
Enter homeschool idea.
So I looked into it and decided 100% NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.  I love my kid but not 24/7 love!
A few weeks went by and my mind returned to the idea.  To not pay tuition any longer frees up a lot of income.  A LOT. The idea of being able to see my husband whenever we want to by driving 45 minutes away is the other BIG plus.  With homeschooling that is an option.  To take school with us.
While the news has not been given to our private school yet I will be doing it tomorrow.  WISH ME LUCK.
xoxo, FREAKED OUT!!!

A DIY even though I almost never DIY.

I read a lot of blogs, and read a lot of books about organizing.
A theme you hear over and over and over again is the "Home Base" where all of your important "stuff" goes.

...In Theory.

Well my home base is an upper cabinet salvaged from a clients house.  I put some patterned paper on it and tada.  Then loaded it up with otherwise important crap.  Ha!

Well today I decided it was ugly.

so I used crafty stuff like this...
and some stuff that sounds crafty that belongs to my husband. This may or may not be for home/craft use, it could in fact be for roof repair or something like that. So if you know this product to be flammable or dangerous please let me know.

I turned it into this...It's better and redder!
I'm almost happy now, but I need some super cute command hooks and maybe I'll paint it black.

But the teeny tiny cow that is holding my stamps is the cutest!
I also really like how my kid is literally in every picture I take.  It's the new blog game. Find Bella!

What are we doing today?

Let's consult the book shall we?

I don't have a to-do list made yet for Wednesday.
So we're going to wing it!

Here's my starting photos
(Note: Nobody uses this computer or desk for anything. I'ts my official drop zone.)

And the laundry room! Oh, the laundry room, all the things I have planned for you!

Wednesdays are the easiest days!

Sangria Time!

Have a lovely hump day!

Somehow posting these "Done" photos really is making me feel accountable, so thanks to all of you for judging me! Ha!

Review - Rubbermaid Lunch Blox

So i'll be honest, we haven't really had the opportunity to use this yet, but I am excited for when we actually do.

It's summer time and we've barely been leaving the house let alone leaving the house long enough to require bringing lunch and/or snacks.

My first thought when I opened the box from Rubbermaid for this review?
I like it....
It's such a logical idea. Fits perfectly in a lunch bag or even a brown bag! ( Whatever your style!)

Here's what Rubbermaid says about this....
Modular containers snap together in to save space in your lunch bag
 Kit includes specially designed Blue Ice™pack that works with LunchBlox containers to keep lunches chilled on the go
 Containers are perfectly portioned for lunch foods commonly carried away from home
 Microwave-, dishwasher- and freezer-safe and BPA-free
 The Sandwich Kit includes a sandwich container sized for regular and specialty breads, two snack containers (perfect for yogurt or nuts) and a snack container (perfect for fruits, vegetables)

They do snap together, absolutely true. Bella has been playing with these like Lego's.
Perfectly proportions - They have the oz measurements on the side for calorie counters. (Smart!)
I give this 2 snaps and hip shake! Can't wait to make lunched that look like the Rubbermaid promo photos!

They also have other size options.

and entree

I don't really pack myself a lunch but if I did, I'd rock the salad one!
(Just sayin')

If you missed it here is a link to Bella's unofficial review!

*Disclaimer: All opinions are mine (and Izabella's), the reviewed product was supplied by the manufacturer but the blog owner did not recieve compensation.

Are you ready for Tuesday? I'm not, but let's pretend shall we?

So according to "The Book" our rooms of the day are the Kitchen and the Dining Room
And what do we have to do to these two rooms?
Who knows, let's consult the book again.
This day also comes with a handy shopping list, to make sure we have all this stuff in stock!
So handy!
Now, let's take a peek at what I'm starting with?
Ha! Wish me luck.

Monday: Update

I finally finished cleaning my two rooms of the day. With just enough time to convince my kid to get in the shower and barely enough time for me to have a glass of sangria before resigning to sleep.

I know...living the dream!

My book nook!

Monday, August 6, 2012
Since I was a little girl I have loved rearranging the furniture.

Maybe it's always been related to my neurosis but I do know that it is a big mental outlet now.

So this is what I've been working on for the past few hours.

This is my master bedroom corner. Now it is my little book nook.

Cute and very practical.

OK. I'll stop being lazy...

...and move the Monday post over here. FYI nothing has happened in either room today. LAZY Monday on my part too I guess! FAIL!

It's Monday

And since we have no more info for schooling I figured I'd discuss my daily/weekly plans.
Starting with Monday.

Ahhhh Monday's.

Usually I do very little of anything on the weekends as far as cleaning and organizing are concerned and I'm pretty sure I live with two people that are incapable of putting anything away.

So no matter what...every time...the rooms end up looking like a mess.

I have a relatively new plan of cleaning two rooms a day, well see how it goes.

For each day I also have a checklist.

See? Told you I was OCD.

Which is unbelievable considering the messies that I live with that make me start fresh every week with messes like this.

A not so official review.

Thursday, August 2, 2012
So thanks to the lovely folks at Rubbermaid I'll be doing a review on some new lunch stuff, until I get that bad boy posted please enjoy Izabella's review of said item.

It's pretty good! Just sayin'

2 weeks...or so

Wednesday, August 1, 2012
So there isn't much going on...still.
I can't wait to get the show on the road. I do however know that the "teachers" went back to work today so hopefully I'll get a phone call or some other sort of task.

That should kill about 45 minutes of the remaining 15 days until the first day of "school".

Other than that everything is all set up and ready to go.

Dave doesn't want her assessed before the school year starts and I have mixed feelings about that, but I will agree with him for the time being since I could probably stand to have a few weeks of EASY. Just to get the hang of this.
